Precarized life. Orders of violence and gender | "Fragile order"

Lecture on May 13, Conrad Lluis: "Fragile order. The production of vulnerability in inpatient care"

In the summer semester 2025, the new Competence Centre for Gender Studies in Transformation at the University of Kassel - in cooperation with the Department of Macrosociology - is offering a public lecture series on the topic of "Precarious Life. Orders of violence and gender". The lectures will take place from May 6 to July 22 on Tuesdays from 6-8 p.m. in seminar room 0113/0114, Arnold-Bode-Straße 8.

The lecture series deals with the multidimensional and intersectional interdependencies between different forms of violence and gender that make life precarious from an interdisciplinary and international perspective. What kind of life is worth living - on the border between recognition and non-recognition? Researchers and academics from various disciplines ask how social, economic and cultural practices contribute to the precarization of working and living practices, or more generally life practices, and in doing so (re-)produce gendered and gendering orders. The lecture series will focus on various aspects of precarious and precarized living realities and conditions that are (re-)produced and materialized by global, national and socially overlapping orders of violence. These include the areas of work, care work, body, space, nature-technology and nature-human relations, refugee and migration regimes and housing.

The lecture series is intersectional, interdisciplinary and international. It is jointly organized by the Competence Centre for Gender Studies in Transformation and the Department of Macrosociology of the Sociology Department at the University of Kassel.
