Dealing with the coronavirus
Information for international students who are planning a stay abroad in Kassel or who are already in Kassel
Due to the effects of the coronavirus, the University of Kassel has decided to cancel all incoming exchanges for the summer semester 2020. With this decision, we would like to ensure the safety and health of all those who would otherwise come to Kassel University and hope that we will be able to continue future exchanges once the worldwide situation has stabilized again.
Please be assured that we will do everything possible to take in all incoming exchange students who have to postpone their stay at Kassel University, hopefully in the academic year 202/21. Please ask your International to contact us: exchange[at]uni-kassel[dot]de
In any case make sure to follow the current recommendations of the German Foreign Office regarding entry to Germany.
If you have not yet moved into your room but have already paid rent, the Studierendenwerk will transfer the advance payment to your account.
If you are already living in a student hall but have to leave now, you will be refunded the overpaid part of the rent in cash when you return the room.
In any case, all those concerned should contact the Student Housing Team of the Studierendenwerk https://www.studierendenwerk-kassel.de/kontakt/kontakt/
The University of Kassel is postponing the start of the summer semester until 20.4.2020. The summer semester starts only in digital form. Already registered students should receive information by their department.
We will do our best to take in all exchange students who have to postpone their stay now in the winter semester 2020/21 and the summer semester 2021. If you would like to postpone your exchange semester, please just ask your international office to contact us. Please contact your home institution or scholarship provider for questions on scholarships.
The validity of the visa is stated in the document. It does not affect the validity if you do not enter Germany at the beginning of the validity period. If you want to postpone your stay abroad to winter semester 20/21, you have to apply for a visa again before entering Germany. The city of Kassel has provided a FAQ list for visa information during the Corona crisis: https://www.uni-kassel.de/uni/en/international-service/coming-to-kassel/welcome-centre/before-arrival-preparation/visa/
