Students launch second Kassel TEDx conference

The Kassel TEDx conference from October 24 to 25 will focus on ideas for entrepreneurial activities in the social and cultural sectors. They are intended to help make our region fit for the future and offer added value for society as a whole. The conference will be held almost exclusively online and in English.

Of the 13 speakers, six will be joined by personalities from around the world, including the successful author John Strelecky. In addition to lectures, workshops and a startup competition, interactive elements will be mapped online. On Sunday at noon, for example, the participants will cook together - the ingredients will be sent to them in advance by mail.

The organizers are all students at the University of Kassel. Niklas Padberg (21, English/American Studies) explains, "We want to bring people together and encourage them to get something going: found an association or a startup, get involved in social life, get active." Stefan Heinemann (24, politics and economics) adds, "Kassel has huge potential, but still makes too little of it. The region has innovative power, dynamism, culture and a large scene of people who want to advance something socially, also because of the impact of our university."

Padberg and Heinemann are themselves good examples of people who make a difference. Together with fellow students, they used a seminar at the Research and Teaching Center for Entrepreneurship (Fludh) at the University of Kassel to develop and implement the idea of a TEDx conference.

TED Talks are regular innovation conferences at which high-profile personalities present ideas for the future and solutions in short talks. The talks remain available on the web. TEDx conferences are licensed but independently organized, usually smaller offshoots.
