University training position: get to know the university and fellow trainees

What opportunities does the university offer its trainees and what do the other trainees actually do? On 11.10.2019, 16 freshly started trainees from the various departments of the University of Kassel met for the seminar "University as a Training Site" to get to know the university as an employer and the other fellow trainees better.

Last Friday, prospective IT specialists, media and information services specialists, service specialists for dialog marketing, administrative assistants, volunteers and gardeners came together and spent a day together with an informative and varied program.

President Prof. Dr. Reiner Finkeldey warmly welcomed the trainees to the university. With over 3000 employees, he said, it would be impossible to meet everyone in person. Therefore, the president encouraged the trainees all the more to take advantage of the moment and ask him questions. So they did: "How does one become president?", "What is your daily routine like?" and "What motivates you?"

Between the various items on the program, the trainees presented their respective training occupations using photos or small souvenirs. During the rally in the morning, the trainees were sent to the various departments of the Central University Administration to collect information on topics relevant to their training and then explain them to the others.

To get an overview of the university as a training location, the trainees also learned about the Erasmus+ program and were given a small campus tour including an insight into the student house. The seminar also included an introduction to occupational safety and fire protection, including a small fire extinguishing exercise.

The seminar is organized annually by training manager Iris Happel, who was very satisfied with how the day went. "The trainees worked with interest and by the end of the day had already started planning another meeting," she said happily.

The aim of the seminar is to give the trainees the most important key points for their start in training, to inform them about the further training opportunities at the University of Kassel and for the trainees to network better with each other.
