Hesse SolarCup on May 24

The Department of Electrical Engineering/Computer Science at the University of Kassel is organizing a very special "Friday for Future" on Friday, May 24, at Königsplatz: at the 18th Hessen SolarCup, teams of young people will compete with their self-built solar vehicles.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., competitions will take place throughout the day with the solar boats, ultralight solar mobiles, SolaRobots and remote-controlled solar mobiles. The solar-powered models were built by students and trainees under the guidance of their teachers and instructors in the schools and companies. It's not just the speed of the models that counts; the documentation and year-themed posters are also considered in the overall standings.

The theme of the year this year is "Living mobility in a new way". With this theme, the Hessen SolarCup is very close to the students demonstrating as part of Fridays for Future.

The main sponsors of the Hessen SolarCup are the CDW Foundation, Städtische Werke Kassel and, new this year, Volkswagenwerk Kassel. The organizer is the University of Kassel, co-organizer is the Environmental and Garden Office of the City of Kassel. The patron is the Hessian Minister for Economic Affairs, Energy, Transport and Regional Development, Tarek Al-Wazir.

The award ceremony will take place on June 7, 2019 at the university in Wilhelmshöher Allee (former engineering school), not open to the public for the winning teams, teachers and relatives.
