New on the Kassel University Council: Humanities scholar Gunilla Budde

Gunilla Budde has been Professor of German and European History of the 19th and 20th Century at the Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg since 2005. Her research focuses include "19th century European bourgeoisie," "history of education," "history of consumption," and "gender history."

She received the President's Medal of Honor for her services as Vice President for Studies and Teaching at the University of Oldenburg from 2010 to 2015. Budde is vice president of the Museumsgesellschaft Oldenburg and chair of the board of trustees of the Stiftung Spiel. She is also, among other things, a member of the Working Group on Historical Women's and Gender Studies and, since 2018, a member of the Center for Contemporary Historical Research Potsdam (ZZF).

With her proven expertise in questions of study and teaching and her academic background as a humanities scholar, she will be a valuable advisor to the University Council," says University President Prof. Dr. Reiner Finkeldey.

In accordance with the Hessian Higher Education Act, the University Council accompanies the university in its development, articulates the expectations that exist in the professional world and promotes the use of scientific knowledge and artistic achievements. Among other things, it has a right of initiative on fundamental matters of the university and must approve development planning. The University Council consists of up to ten members. The chairman is Prof. Dr. Wilfried Müller.
