Lecture series: "Digital society - a design task"

The Scientific Center for Information Technology Design (ITeG) at the University of Kassel, in cooperation with the German Informatics Society, is once again organizing the interdisciplinary public lecture series "Digital Society - A Design Task" with renowned scientists from various disciplines in the 2018/2019 winter semester.

The ITeG has set itself the task of scientifically analysing digitalization in the field of tension between opportunity and risk and developing viable design proposals. Against this backdrop, the new lecture series examines how digital change is influencing and reorganizing our lives, the economy and society, as well as the challenges and design options it opens up.

The opening lecture on Wednesday, 31 October 2018 at 5 pm will be given by Professor Dr Günter Maier from Bielefeld University: "Digitalized work: psychological consequences and design recommendations".  Professor Maier heads the Work and Social Psychology Unit in the Department of Psychology at Bielefeld University.

Abstract of the lecture:
For some years now, especially in Germany, there has been an increasingly intensive debate about various technological changes in industry, which are associated with the term Industry 4.0. This term is a widespread metaphor that is associated with heterogeneous technological developments for industry. Following the initial focus on technological development, the debate on the possible consequences for work processes and employees has now also begun. This debate is mostly based on the socio-technical systems approach. This presentation will focus on three topics relating to the digitalization of work from ongoing projects that deal with the short- and long-term consequences of digitalization. Specifically, it will deal with questions and results on the acceptance of digital technology, questions of work design with digital technology and questions that deal with the possible change in skills through digital technology. Finally, possible opportunities and risks of digital technology will be discussed.

Location: Conference room ITeG, Pfannkuchstraße 1, 34121 Kassel
Time: usually Wednesdays 5 to 6.30 pm. Exception: Tuesday, November 20, 2018, starting at 6 pm.
