Self-employment: Freelance editing

In addition to employment, self-employment is also an option for humanities graduates. For someone whose heart beats for language, working with texts is an option, for example in freelance editing.

The core task of freelance editors is to ensure the quality of a text. With a very good feel for language and extensive knowledge of spelling, grammar and punctuation, proofreaders check and optimize their clients' texts and publications. They also revise texts in terms of stylistic, visual and argumentative design.

Anna Lina Dux, who has been working as a freelance editor since 2014, tells you what you should bear in mind when becoming self-employed and what knowledge and skills you need to be successful in this field. She has a master's degree in German studies, philosophy and political science and worked for several years as a research assistant and lecturer for special tasks at the University of Kassel.
