The position is initially limited for 3 years with the possibility of extension for another 2 years (qualification position according to § 65 HHG in connection with § 2 Abs. 1 Satz 1 WissZeitVG). The possibility of a doctorate is given.

The main focus of the research and development tasks is the optimization of neural networks for FPGAs. This includes the development of algorithms for design automation in combination with training and optimization of neural networks. Part of the tasks is part of a BMBF project on the use of neural networks for the analysis of time series. In addition to the construction of a prototype as a demonstrator, a transfer to teaching is also planned. At the department, design and optimization algorithms in high-level synthesis and for FPGA-based arithmetic circuits are being researched. These methods are to be improved and applied to the problem as part of the research activity.

Tasks:

For this position, sound programming skills in C++ or another object-oriented language are required, as well as an enjoyment of programming. Furthermore, basic knowledge of hardware design of digital logic, e.g. with VHDL or Verilog, and basic knowledge of FPGAs or their design software are required. Experience working with machine learning environments (e.g., TensorFlow, Keras) including Python skills would be a great advantage. Prior knowledge of digital signal processing would be an advantage.

Requirements:

The position requires a very good scientific university degree in one of the following fields of study: computer science, electrical engineering, information systems engineering or similar and requires strong methodological and analytical skills as well as a good command of written and spoken English. Good German language skills are an advantage for collaboration within the project and the department, in teaching, and in communication with students.

Opportunity to prepare for a PhD will be provided. The performance of the service in the project serves at the same time the scientific qualification of the applicant.

The Department of Electrical Engineering/Computer Science strives to increase the number of women in the scientific field and therefore especially encourages women to apply.
