Second RoboCup qualifying tournament at the end of February

For the second time, a qualification tournament for the German RoboCup Junior Championship will take place in Kassel. On February 27 and 28, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., 51 teams will compete in four disciplines at the University of Kassel, Wilhelmshöher Allee site.

112 students from Kassel city and state and Göttingen try to program their self-built robots so that they can autonomously navigate a course. The materials used are completely up to them. Constructions made of Fischertechnik and Lego as well as self-built robots based on Arduino or other microcontroller boards will be competing.

In the "Line" discipline, which is divided into two age groups, the vehicles have to follow a line, which can also be interrupted at times and form intersections at which they have to turn in the right direction. There are also obstacles that have to be driven around or over. Steep ramps can only be climbed by those who have balanced their vehicles well. Finally, balls have to be collected and transported to a specified corner of the playing field.

Two differently difficult tasks await the young tinkerers in the two "Maze" disciplines. A labyrinth is to be traversed and heat sources or red crosses are to be found. There, so-called "rescue kits" are to be dropped. Whoever finds his way back to the starting tile at the end gets extra points.

The event will take place in the large columned hall of the former engineering school (University of Kassel, Wilhelmshöher Allee 73, entrance C). Young and old are invited to marvel, ask questions and cross their fingers. Admission is, of course, free.Further information is available here: http: //www.uni-kassel.de/eecs/robocup
