Kassel Comedy Colloquium - Festival on the Literature and Science of the Comic

For 20 years, the Brückner-Kühner Foundation has organized the Kassel Comedy Colloquium together with partners. From February 29 to March 7, 2020, this unique festival on the literature and science of the comic will take place for the 9th time. The program includes eight days of readings, stage art, exhibitions and music, combined with a symposium on interdisciplinary humor research. Its motto "After sex" extends into the artistic events. We are looking forward to Lisa Eckhart, Pit Knorr, Michael Lentz, Nora Gomringer, Stefanie Sargnagel and the duo Pigor & Eichhorn, among others. Part of the program is also the awarding of the "Kassel Literature Prize for Grotesque Humor" to Heinz Strunk and the "Förderpreis Komische Literatur" to Chrizzi Heinen.

As part of the festival, the humorological symposium under the motto "After Sex" will deal with the connection between comedy and eroticism: Eros or sex are individually and culturally more important in the media and consumer society than almost anything else, they are also a hot potato in current, often tragicomic debates about sexism, abuse, homophobia, gender impositions - but also testify to failure and great fatigue. The existential meaning of sex arises from the tension between obsession and taboo, seduction and prohibition, between freedom and coercion, power and repression, willing and able. The comic almost inevitably reaches into these differences. The tendentious joke is only the most popular expression of it. And how (funny) is it when you don't want to know about sex - or have it behind you, when you say (with Foucault) "No to King Sex"?
