Working with Wordpress for beginners (two-day workshop)

In this two-day online workshop you will be taught how to professionally handle the topic of web design with content management systems (CMS) - in this case Wordpress. With the system you can create and operate websites or blogs. Meanwhile, the vast majority of websites are based on Wordpress.

Since the use of content management systems is a basic requirement in many editorial jobs, especially those who are interested in jobs in journalism, press and public relations, corporate communications or marketing, for example, can score points in job applications with the knowledge acquired in the workshop.

The workshop is preferably aimed at beginners or students who already have experience with other content management systems (e.g. Typo3) but are not yet familiar with Wordpress.

Expectations and goals

In the course, after a theoretical introduction and practical instruction, three to four different websites will be created in group work. Structures of a professional website and the basis for further expansion of the pages with plugins (online store elements, event calendar, etc.) will be demonstrated. In addition, the participants will learn tools for various useful aspects of web design, such as image editing, text structure, design, etc..

The main topics for the web pages are given, but these topics are to be worked out in the group. The possibility to try out and create by yourself is always given in the workshop. The goal is for all participants to acquire the necessary skills to create a website.

This course is offered exclusively for FB 02 Humanities and Cultural Studies. Students from other departments may also participate if there is sufficient capacity. A certificate of attendance will be issued for successful participation on both days. It is also possible to earn one credit for additive key competencies (achievement type "Key Competency Event of the University of Kassel", if in addition to the participation a website with all applicable requirements is created and edited.

Required for the workshop

The workshop will take place via Zoom. It is therefore important that you have a PC or laptop including a microphone. The use of a camera is optional. A stable internet connection is also required so that you can use Zoom without interference.

Speaker

The workshop will be conducted by Pablo Jenior. He runs the agency Webdesign Jenior https://webdesign-jenior.de/ and works as deputy managing director in the publishing house & Antiquariat Jenior. Many students learned the basics of web design and content marketing during an internship there.
