Protecting the climate, curbing land consumption: Students present proposals for more sustainable settlement and landscape development in the Kassel area

Climate, land use and biodiversity are interlinked

More and more land is being built on in Kassel and the surrounding municipalities. The demand for housing continues unabated. Precious agricultural land is being lost. Animal and plant habitats are being destroyed. Resource consumption is increasing and the consequences for the climate are problematic. Against this backdrop, students from the Department of Architecture Urban Planning Landscape Planning at the University of Kassel have developed new concepts and planning strategies.

What needs to be done so that people can reach all important facilities within 15 minutes on foot or by bike and need fewer cars? How can a higher building density, needs-based green spaces and a different mobility system be realized at the same time? And how does all this relate to our food?
