Lecture Series: Transformation of Energy - On the Way to Climate Neutrality? How do the university and Kassel become climate neutral?

The lecture series "Transformations and the Urban-Rural Relationship (in Northern Hesse)" focuses on different facets of the socio-ecological turnaround, including the region of Northern Hesse. Every week, two speakers from science and practice will give lectures and discuss with each other. One of the lectures will be devoted to a review of the general state of knowledge on individual aspects of the transformation. The second lecture will focus on North Hesse and discuss the challenges arising from the socio-ecological transformation for the region. The new urban-rural conflicts associated with the expansion of renewable energies, the challenges facing the North Hessian economy and the fact that the transformation processes not only have an economic side, but also change the North Hessian party and media landscape will be elaborated.

Topic on 17.01.2023: Transformation of energy - On the way to climate neutrality? How do the university and Kassel become climate neutral?
The central goal of the Paris Climate Agreement of 2015 is to limit global warming to a maximum of 2°C compared to the pre-industrial era. The Federal Republic of Germany, together with its partner states in the European Union, has set itself the ambitious goal of being climate neutral by 2050. However, the ways in which this goal is to be achieved and the extent to which federal, state and municipal policies can contribute to the targeted climate neutrality are the subject of controversial debate. Against this background, various political strategies must be evaluated and weighed against each other with regard to their economic, ecological and social consequences. The example of the region of Northern Hesse will also be used to show what contributions can be made to climate neutrality at the regional level.
