FUSION WiSe 2023/24 | "The Kassel Model 1973 - 2023"

In the winter semester 2023/2024, the Department of Architecture - Urban Planning - Landscape Planning at the University of Kassel will continue its 50th anniversary lecture series entitled "The Kassel Model 1973 - 2023", highlighting innovations and pressing issues in architecture, urban planning and landscape planning.
The review of the history of research and teaching is combined with current concepts of urban activism, the redesign of public spaces, the moratorium on demolition, sustainable building and digitalization. Then as now, critical and technically sound concepts are needed to address the challenges facing society. The Kassel Model stands for this self-image.

January 10: Kassel Demolition or preservation?
Against the backdrop of the current climate, biodiversity and energy crises, criticism of current demolition practices is growing louder. In Kassel, however, there is a long tradition of campaigning for the preservation of historic buildings - specifically in the history of the University of Kassel. As part of the opening of the exhibition "Demolition or Preservation - The Henschelei and the Gesamthochschule Kassel", city actors will present various buildings currently threatened with demolition in Kassel and aim to stimulate a discussion about ecological, social and cultural perspectives in times of climate emergency.

As part of the opening of the anniversary exhibition "Demolition or Preservation - The Henschelei and the Gesamthochschule Kassel" , followed by a discussion with curator Alexander Stumm and city actors about buildings in Kassel that are threatened with demolition.

The lecture will take place in person, will be recorded and will be available as a video on Panopto the following day.
