Physics Day on January 25: Quantum physics and more

On January 25, 2025, the Institute of Physics at the Oberzwehren campus is organizing a "Day of Physics". From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Institute will open its doors and offer a colorful program for curious people of all ages. This year, the event will be dedicated to the "International Year of Quantum Science and Quantum Technologies" to mark the 100th anniversary of the formulation of quantum mechanics.

The Institute's working groups present their research work as well as a variety of amazing experiments - to watch, join in and marvel at. The tour has something for every age group and every level of experience. Guided tours of the research laboratories are offered throughout the day. Pupils interested in physics can find out more about studying physics at an information event at 11:00 a.m. or talk to the staff throughout the event.

The highlight of the day will be the keynote lecture by guest speaker Prof. Dr. Immanuel Bloch at 13:00. Prof. Bloch is Director of the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics in Garching and will speak about "Quantum simulations, quantum computers and the coldest objects in the world" - a fascinating and topical subject.

The event will take place at the university campus in Oberzwehren, Heinrich-Plett-Straße 40, 34132 Kassel. The on-site cafeteria will be open and will be serving drinks, hot and cold meals and snacks.
