Otto Braun Fund Doctoral Scholarships

In 1989, the Otto Braun Fund was created to provide support for young academics and artists.

Doctoral candidates of the University of Kassel who have already been accepted as doctoral candidates by the responsible doctoral committee or have submitted an application for acceptance as a doctoral candidate at the doctoral office are eligible to apply for a doctoral scholarship.

The age limit for the first award of a doctoral scholarship is generally 35 years. Each child increases the age limit by one year. Vocational training or a second-chance education prior to studying increases the age limit by this time period, up to a maximum of three years.

The scholarship is endowed with 1,300 euros per month.

Scholarship holders can claim a monthly childcare allowance for their children with a maximum of 200 euros if they provide evidence of childcare costs.

The possible earnings in addition to the doctoral scholarship through academic or specialised activities are limited to a maximum of 6,000 euros gross per year.

Within the scope of the doctoral scholarship, it is possible to receive an annual grant of up to 500 euros for an active participation in a congress or conference with a lecture or poster session when proof of the costs is submitted to the Support for Early Career Researchers Office.

The awarding of doctoral scholarships from the Otto Braun Fund is generally for two years. In individual cases, the scholarship can be extended for an additional year.

In the case of childbirth, it is possible to submit an application for extending the doctoral scholarship by six months.

The Board of Trustees decides on the basis of quality and prospects of success. The biographies of the applicants provide important information about the prospects of success. In addition, the explanation of how the project's content is relevant to B. Braun's topics can be assigned a further importance in the selection of the scholarships.
