What does "validate" mean?
Validation means updating the card at one of the automatic machines that have been set up at each university site. This involves updating the data that is stored on the card in visual and electronic form, e.g. your semester ticket. The card loses its validity if it is not regularly validated.

How long are the student pass and semester ticket on the CampusCard valid? 
Validation ensures that the passes are activated for the current semester – and the next one too, if you have already renewed your registration. You can see at eCampus (My Studies > Student Service) whether you have completed the reregistration process or not.

What you need to know about the card

If you have enrolled and do not yet have a CampusCard, you can order your first one online. If you are re-registering, the card will automatically be generated after your enrolment and sent to the postal address that you specified in your application. However, if your address is not in Germany, the card will not be posted. You can pick it up at the IT Help Desk (ITS, Mönchebergstrasse 11).

The semester ticket is valid in the whole area served by NVV (North Hesse Transport Network) and on selected routes operated by other transport companies to Göttingen, Fulda, Marburg and Paderborn.
