1. Deregistration "ex officio"

Deregistration "ex officio" is the standard case of deregistration. It always takes place at the end of the current semester. Deregistration is automatically carried out if one or more of the following conditions occur:

  • You have not paid the semester fee after all deadlines have expired. If you do not want to continue your studies anyway, this is the easiest way to be deregistered without a request. No further disadvantages for you will arise from this!
  • You have not fulfilled obligations (e.g. payment of premiums) towards your health insurance company.
  • You have earned your degree in the current semester. The semester in which the last exam took place applies.
  • You have lost your examination eligibility and have not requested a change of your course of study.
  • After 2 years in which you have delivered no academic performances without sufficient explanation, a hearing by the faculty took place during which deregistration on the basis of §65 Abs. 4 HessHG was explained to you.

You will receive a "Deregistration Notice" by post either at the beginning of April (deregistration at the end of the winter semester - 31.03.) or at the beginning of October (deregistration at the end of the summer semester - 30.09.). In addition, a   "Deregistration Certificate" is available for download in the eCampus Self-Service under “My Studies→StudentService→Requested Reports" for up to 30 days after the end of the semester in which the deregistration is carried out. This can be presented to the authorities (also as proof for the pension insurance institution) or as proof of enrollment periods for other universities.

2. Deregistration upon request

You apply for deregistration in the eCampus of the University of Kassel. You have to log into the eCampus, click on the menu in the upper left corner and got to "My Studies → Requests".

To file a request for deregistration, click on "Disenrollment“. Then choose "Create new request" and complete the subsequent pages. After you have submitted you request, it has the status "Request made online“ and you can find it under "My submitted applications“.

Deregistration is carried out on the requested date or at the end of the current semester, if no different date has been requested  The semester in which the deregistration is carried out counts as a subject-related semester or as a university semester. Retroactive deregistration is not possible!

After your request has been processed, its status changes to "Approved“ and a "Deregistration Certificate" is available for download in the eCampus Self-Service under “My Studies→StudentService→Requested Reports" for up to 30 days after the end of the semester in which the deregistration is carried out. This can be presented to authorities (also as proof for the pension insurance institution) or as proof of the semesters you were enroled for other universities.

Please log into the eCampus regularly to view the status of your request. Changes will be displayed on the homepage under "Messages".

Refund of the semester fee

If you request deregistration by April 30 or October 31 at the latest (receipt of the online request by the Registrar‘s Office), the semester fee can be refunded. If your request is received at a later date, a refund (even a partial refund) is excluded. For a fee refund, the CampusCard must be invalidated beforehand; this can be done at the validating stations on campus.

Please note: The process of refunding may take 4 - 6 weeks.

3. Deregistration upon graduation

You must be enroled in order to deliver academic performances. The final exam (bachelor / master thesis, final colloquium) is also an academic performance. Therefore, deregistration can only come into question after deliviring the last academic performance. The date of the last exam is determinative. You can find out which date this is or will be by contacting the examination office responsible for your course of studies. Waiting for the result is irrelevant in this respect and does not require being enrolled. After this last exam, deregistrationis possible any day or at the end of the semester.

In the extremely rare case of failing the last exam, cancellation of deregistration and thus re-enrolment is possible any time. Please send your written request as an informal e-mail) to the Registrar‘s Office as soon as you become aware of the failed exam and please attach a performance overview showing that you did not pass the last exam.

Special case 1st state examination

The examinations for the first state examination (only for teaching degree programs L1-L3 and L5) are not part of the degree program. Enrolment is not required. Exmatriculation is possible after the end of the last module examination.
