Application and selection procedure

Those who move around move Europe – be part of it!

Application and selection procedure – apart from English/American studies, Romance studies and sport science

Step 1: Information

  1. First find out about the exchange opportunities at your faculty
  2. Identify host institutions that can offer you attractive opportunities for an exchange. You should not only take into consideration subject issues, but language and personal aspects, too (Experience reports from former Erasmus students and the websites of the host institutions may be helpful here).
  3. If necessary, obtain advice about the finer details of planning your stay abroad from the responsible academic advisor in your faculty.
  4. If necessary, obtain advice about organising your stay abroad from the Erasmus team at the International Office.

Step 2: Applying
Hand in your application to the responsible academic advisor

Application documents:
As each academic adviser establishes their own application procedure, there are no standard guidelines for the application documents needing to be submitted.
However, an Erasmus application normally involves the following documents:

  1. A printed version of the online application
  2. A statement of purpose
  3. Your CV
  4. A summary of results (Higher Education Information Systems extract)

Please ask your responsible academic adviser about exactly what you need to do.

Application deadlines:
There is no standard application date for all the faculties. Please ask your academic adviser about the relevant application deadlines and other formalities.

Step 3:
Awarding places The responsible academic adviser will check your application, then give you some reliable feedback and nominate you to your host institution, if you would like to accept the place. Your application will then be forwarded to the Erasmus team at the International Office and it will inform you about all the further steps by e-mail.

The selection of the Erasmus participants is based on the following criteria: academic achievements, motivation, previous mobility experiences, study progress, language skills (if applicable).

There is a separate application procedure for spending a semester abroad for the Humanities faculty (FB02), Institute for English and American Studies. You need to apply online. The signature of the faculty coordinator is provided during the selection meeting together with the International Office; you do not therefore need to obtain a signature.
