For the 12th time, Kassel University is calling for the UNIKAT ideas competition this year. Surprising products, innovative services, the creative utilization of research results or just an idea - all kinds of contributions are very welcome in the competition. Over 500 sketches of ideas have been submitted in the past eleven years of the competition. In the 2019 and 2018 competitions, a record number of entries was set in two consecutive years.

And yet, an university ideas competition in corona times, does that make sense? "We think it makes sense", says Sandra Wilhelm, a member of the start-up consultancy team at Kassel University, "because right now we need the creativity of our participants".

Nevertheless, even the UNIKAT Ideas Competition will not ignore the Corona crisis, because it has shown the importance of regional cohesion, regional resources and regional creativity in times of global crises. This is why Kassel University has awarded the special prize "Social Entrepreneurship - Your ideas for our region" with an amount of 2,000 euros, this year. "The Corona Pandemic is just showing us which challenges can suddenly arise from crises in social, economic, ecological and cultural terms", says Jörg Froharth (Head of UniKasselTransfer), "With this year's special prize we want to additionally motivate the participants of the UNIKAT Ideas Competition to develop ideas that will make our region more crisis-proof for the future and, above all, offer value for society as a whole". These can be ideas in the fields of education, social services, regional economy or ecology, for example.

The competition is open to employees, students and alumni of Kassel University and pupils of the Schülerforschungszentrum Nordhessen. An expert network of regional company representatives will evaluate the submitted sketches of ideas. An individual written feedback with many tips and experiences from the entrepreneurial practice results from three independent expertises. Participants will continue to have access to the Kassel start-up network and receive advice from the UniKasselTransfer Inkubator, the university's start-up support service.

Ideas can be submitted immediately. The closing date for this year's UNIKAT Ideas Competition is 31 July 2020.
