The most important dates and offers for the start of studies
At the University of Kassel there is not the an introductory event. Rather, there is an extensive offer of different "Veranstalter:innen":
- On the one hand, the departments offer an official program. This type of introductory event is about the subject of study: What is this subject thematically about? Which majors are offered in Kassel? Which professors and subject areas determine the content? So: by all means attend and ask questions!
- For some (not all) courses and subjects we recommend participation in preliminary courses. Pre-courses are aimed at first-year students who would like to refresh their knowledge in certain subjects. The preliminary courses start before the introduction dates.
- Often the student councils also offer introductory courses. The student council is part of the student self-organization and deals with the specific questions of the students of a department. In terms of content, it deals with questions about the course of studies, the organization of the curriculum, the organization of learning and examinations. The student councils thus offer help with the question of how best to study this subject.
- In addition, there are "welcome events": First semester welcome, offers for students with children, offers for international students.
Monday, 09.10.23
10.00 a.m.
Location: Moritzstraße 18, Campus Center - Lecture room 5
Welcome by the Dean Prof. Ruffing
In the orientation tutorial you will be supervised by two experienced students together with other first-year students*. These experienced students offer you information and advice on all questions that are important for a successful start to your studies, such as:
- Which courses can and should I attend in the first semester?
- What are seminars? What is the difference between a propaedeutic course, lecture, seminar or tutorial?
- How do I create my timetable?
- What are module examination regulations?
- How do I find my way around the campus? Where can I find my seminar room, lecture hall, library or cafeteria?
- How do I get access to online seminars?
- How do I log into the university's W-Lan? How do I configure my university mailbox?
- What do I have to do in lectures, seminars and tutorials? What are study and examination achievements?
In addition, the orientation tutorials give you the opportunity to get to know the university and the city of Kassel together with other first-year students.
Experience shows: Friendships made during the orientation days often last a whole (study) lifetime.
The orientation tutorials start with the welcome by the Dean Prof. Ruffing on 09.10.23 at 10.00 a.m. in the Campus Center - Lecture Hall 5!

Pre-course/Propedeutic
04.10.-13.10.23 Pre-course Spanish
In order to be able to study successfully, it is important that you develop your language skills quickly after the start of your studies so that you can use Spanish at level B1 without any problems, both in order to successfully complete the individual modules of the language practice and to participate in the courses of the subject sciences. We support you with special language practice courses called Propädeutikum, which are taught exclusively by native speakers: Within the first winter semester you will reach the B1 level by means of a combination of block courses and regular weekly sessions.
I do not have a B1 level yet.
If you do not have a B1 language level when you start your studies, you will catch up on the necessary skills in a preliminary course and during the semester. To the preliminary course in Spanish
I have the language level B1 or higher
If you can already prove the level B1, it is possible to directly attend the courses of the first module of the language practice.
If you have an even higher level of Spanish, please take the placement test scheduled immediately before the beginning of the semester, so that you can then find a suitable start for the modules of the language practice:
