Project:

Methods of continuous PFH determination for the dynamic adaptation of safety parameters in communication systems to increase reliability and maintainability - MEPHysto - Two

Project Name:

MEPHYsto II

Supported by:

As a feasibility study by the Distr@l funding program of the Hessian State Chancellery in the area of the Minister for Digital Strategy and Development

Running time:

01.08.2023 - 31.07.2025

Project description:

Wireless communication is essential in Industry 4.0, IoT and SmartGrid. Industrial protocols are not designed for wireless communication and do not adapt to current disturbances. Increasing numbers of faults generally reduce reliability and security, which can lead to a change in the permissible and legally prescribed security level, meaning that the overall system would be operating in an unlawful framework. The new approach monitors the communication, continuously calculates the current security level, changes the communication behavior depending on the interference characteristics and estimates the time until the prescribed, legal security level is undercut. An intelligent decision-maker can activate and deactivate measures depending on the situation, so that communication is changed dynamically depending on the situation and therefore always functions optimally in terms of security.

Objective:

The aim of the MEPHystoII research project is to design a concept for the described procedure and to implement it as a prototype in order to test the feasibility of the described dynamic approach in realistic scenarios and under the current safety requirements during the subsequent validation.
