Nina Baghery is a research associate at the Department of Development Policy and Postcolonial Studies. Her research focuses on historical materialist analyses of German development cooperation, particularly in the area of development policy support for Mexico's energy transition. In this regard, she investigates the relationship between German energy transition funding and land conflicts in the Isthmus of Oacaxa. Furthermore, she is interested in the function of public development cooperation as a regulatory instrument of German capital accumulation, as well as in theoretical debates about the extension of postcolonial perspectives on development cooperation through historical materialist approaches. Nina Baghery previously studied sociology at Goethe University Frankfurt, Universidad La Habana in Cuba, and El Colegio de la Frontera Sur in Mexico.
