General Information


When does the IMM take place?

The IMM takes place each summer term at Kassel University.

What exactly is the IMM?

The IMM is a study-program at advanced Bachelor-level with a  special  focus  on  internationalisation,  in  English  at  the  University  of  Kassel. The selective mixture of highly educated teachers with international background guarantees a competent and challenging content of each course, as well as the composition of students with different nationalities. The
IMM  offers  students  interested  in  a  career  in  international  and  global  business  the background knowledge, experience and skills to be successful in their endeavours. Business students will gain an additional qualification in International Management, preparing to meet the increased demands for qualified international staff.  

In which language are the lectures?
All IMM-courses are taught in English. Good knowledge of English is a pre-requisite of application for an exchange.

Who can take part in the IMM?
a) Regular students of Kassel University
b) Students from foreign countries

Who is empowered to participate at IMM?
All students of Business Administration, Management, Economics and Educational Management are qualified for participation. Non-business or non-economics students e.g. natural, technical or social sciences can apply, if they fulfill additional requirements, e.g. basic knowledge of management issues.

What do I gain for successful attendance?
The completion of all relevant requirements leads to the award of the Certificate of International Management by the Faculty of Economics and Management of the University of Kassel.

Is it possible to have an oral examination in the IMM courses?
In courses given by guest lecturers an oral examination is not possible. If you are not sure if a lecturer is a guest lecturer write an email to siegnerm@uni-kassel.de.

Which demands do I have to meet, to get the IMM-certificate?
a) Regular students of Kassel University
The Certificate of International Management will be awarded for the successful achievement of 30 ECTS (3 x 6 = 18 ECTS from the obligatory part plus 2 x 6 = 12 ECTS from the elective part). To get the certificate all IMM courses must be completed in Kassel. Courses from other universites cannot be taken into account. Furthermore a stay abroad (study or internship with a minimum of one semester in a non German speaking country) is needed. Previous studies at non German speaking universities can be accredited on the same basis. The internship has to be completed during the duration of study at Kassel University, previous internships or employments cannot be taken into account.

b) Students from abroad
Exchange students will be issued a Transcript of Records with a detailed list of passed courses and achieved grades. This transcript is the precondition for accreditation in the home university.

Foreign students, who participate in the IMM program but do not obtain any ECTS for their academic performance, do receive a Confirmation of Participation. Students who are regularly enrolled at a university abroad and who obtain a minimum of 30 ECTS of the course program will receive the Certificate of International Management. Courses from other universites cannot be taken into account.

Do I have to register for the courses?
All IMM courses require obligatory registration.
 
a) Regular students of Kassel University
Please use the HISPOS to register for an IMM-course. All non economics’ students of the University of Kassel can be admitted after
approval of application documents (fulfilment of additional requirements). Due to limited places the final decision of acceptance will be made by a committee.
 
b) Students from abroad
All foreign students with an economics’ background can be admitted. Students from abroad have to apply at the Faculty of Economics and Management

When is the application-deadline for the IMM?
The application deadline is April 1st of each year.
 
How is the IMM structured? How many ECTS points do I get for a course?
a) Regular students of Kassel University
The program comprises seven courses of which 3 are obligatory and 4 are elective.

Obligatory courses

  • Fundamentals in International Management
  • Company Project
  • International Business Environment

Elective courses

  • International Marketing
  • Human Resource Management
  • International Finance
  • Operations Management

Each course consists of 4 working hours per week (altogether 48 hours) and is equivalent to 6 ECTS points (European Credit Transfer System).

b) Students from abroad
Foreign students who are regularly enrolled at a University/Business school abroad are free to select any course according to the requirement of their home university. Foreign students are not bounded to the structure of obligatory and elective courses.

Do I have to complete all IMM-courses in one semester, to get the certificate?
No, this is not necessary.

Can the IMM-courses be introduced in the study ulterior?
All IMM courses count, in addition, towards the regular courses of specialisation at the Diploma I / Bachelor level in the field of economics and management at the University of Kassel.

What shall I do to get the IMM-certificate?
With the successful completion of all courses, students send an email to siegnerm@uni-kassel.de for the issuance of the Certificate. German students also have to enclose a certified copy of their semester / internship abroad.

What does it cost to take part in the IMM?
The IMM programme costs no additional fees. Students of University of Kassel and students of our partner universities with exchange agreements can take part. If you are not sure if your home-university is a partner university, visit http://www.uni-kassel.de/aaa/Partner.htm.

Obligatory Courses (18 credits)
The program requires three obligatory courses to be taken.

  • Company Project (6 credits)
  • Fundamentals in International Management (6 credits)
  • International Business Environment (6 credits)

Elective Courses (12 credits)
Two additional courses have to be taken out of the following offer:

  • Human Resource Management (6 credits)
  • International Finance (6 credits)
  • International Marketing (6 credits)
  • Operations Management (6 credits)
