Printed items

The University of Kassel Library has more than 1.7 million printed items at its six sites. They include approx. 1 million volumes at the Campus Library on Holländischer Platz, the largest library site. Items can be ordered using the internal loan service between the different sites.

All presently available items are freely accessible if not marked otherwise in the catalogue. The item’s location is shown in the holdings information of the catalogue. If you use the Medienstandort auf Karte zeigen (Show media site on map) link, you will find the exact location on the shelves. You can also use our information sheets.

Items gathered in closed stacks are: back volumes of journals, older and/or valuable books. These items can be ordered using the internal loan service. Older and valuable books, maps and other items that are not for loan for reasons of preservation will be provided in special reading rooms.

Please also refer to our tips on closed stacks requests.

Reference items are not for loan. They include journals and newspapers, general reference works within the subject group All as well as volumes bearing a special label. For older acquisitions there is a red tape across the spine; later acquisitons carry the notice Nicht ausleihbar on the shelfmark label.

Reference items are marked in the KARLA catalogue portal as For reference only and may be found either in open or closed stacks.
