Congratulations to Ms. Ramírez Bermúdez, Ms. Patricia Contreras, and Mr. Hemanshu Mandalia on successfully completing their master’s theses!

On September 10, Mr. Mandalia presented his master’s thesis titled “Smartphone-Based Human Activity Recognition Using the LDA Algorithm.” He was advised by Isabel Hübener and Judith Heinisch (acting).

On September 11, Ms. Ramírez Bermúdez presented her master’s thesis titled “Recognition and Evaluation of High-Level Contexts and Emotions with Physiological Sensors.” The thesis was supervised by Judith Heinisch. Ms. Ramírez Bermúdez’s thesis focused on the classification and evaluation of physiological data influenced by “high-level” contexts and emotions.

Ms. Patricia Contreras’s thesis addressed the question of whether current cellular mobile networks are suitable for transmitting a pedestrian’s motion data to prevent collisions between vehicles and pedestrians. To this end, she investigated the influence of transmission delays occurring in cellular networks on the probability that impending collisions are correctly detected. The thesis focused on collecting empirical data on transmission delays in the Deutsche Telekom and O2 networks, developing corresponding transmission models, and calculating the probability of collision detection based on the generated models. The results of the thesis were also presented in her presentation on the master’s thesis titled “Impact of Transmission Delays on Collision Detection Performance” on September 11. Ms. Contreras was advised by Marek Bachmann.
