On September 12, 2017, Naveed Hayat presented his master’s thesis titled “Determining the Run Times of Implicit Positioning,” which was supervised by Dennis Kroll.

In his thesis, Mr. Hayat presented a series of adapted and newly developed algorithms that can be used to autonomously enable and disable “Implicit Positioning,” a method of indoor localization. Implicit Positioning should only be active while the user is moving through a building. If the user moves outside a building or remains in a room for an extended period, Implicit Positioning should be deactivated. Mr. Hayat’s task was to develop algorithms to recognize these situations. Based on data from his own measurements, Mr. Hayat was able to demonstrate that performance remains virtually unchanged when Implicit Positioning is activated and deactivated autonomously, compared to when the user activates and deactivates the feature manually.
