The ultralight solar mobile

A group of at least 2 to max. 4 pupils or trainees form a team and construct an ultralight solar mobile. The team takes part in the race on the day of the competition. The race is run on a circuit built in the shape of a figure eight. The results of the races count towards the overall result, as does the evaluation of the two posters that have to be produced. The posters are one poster describing and presenting the model and one poster dealing with an overarching topic.

There are three separate evaluation classes:

• Pupils in grades 5 to 8, with freely designed vehicles
• Pupils in grades 5 to 8, with vehicles from a predetermined kit
• Students in grades 9 to 13 and apprentices

The requirements for the two classes differ during the race. Grades 9 to 13 and trainees drive the same circuit as grades 5 to 8, but have the additional requirement of negotiating a change of direction.

Every year, the best teams qualify for the national finals of Solarmobil-Deutschland, which traditionally take place on the last weekend in September at DASA in Dortmund.
