Lecture by Prof. Angela Schrott on the topic "Las riquezas y maravillas americanas en textos historiográficos del siglo XVI. Tradiciones discursivas y análisis histórico del discurso"

The research project of the Department of Romance Linguistics shows that the systematic exploitation of raw materials began when the Spanish conquistadors set foot on American soil: Possession and extractivism begin with the discovery. Prof. Schrott analyzes texts written by the first generation of conquistadors, in which they write down their experiences for their families or the authorities and give an unbiased account of their exploitation. The discourse-linguistic view of memorias, relaciones and historias reveals the early history of modern extractivism in the newly discovered "world of raw materials".
