"Oil price explosion, bank crash, corona lies. Crises - and how they are made credible linguistically" | Lecture at Seoul National University

In June 2024, David Römer and Hanna Poloschek had the opportunity to present initial project results at the conference "Crises as Impulses for German Studies? Considerations, Investigations, Reflections" at Seoul National University in South Korea. In her lecture "Oil price explosion, bank crash, corona lies. Crises - and how they are made linguistically credible" focused on the linguistic plausibilization of the crisis-like. The exchange with our colleagues in the panel and beyond was stimulating for us, especially with regard to the diverse international perspectives. In addition to the enriching insights and encounters at the conference, we were able to explore the city and its culture together with our colleague Tamara Bodden, who had also traveled to the conference. A visit to the border with North Korea was a particular highlight of the trip: the presentation and perception of history also gave us valuable impetus for our work here.
