Freelance editing (2-day workshop)*

In addition to employment, self-employment is also an option for humanities graduates. For someone whose heart beats for language, working with texts, for example in freelance editing, is an option. The core task of freelance editors is to ensure and optimize the quality of a text. With a very good feel for language and extensive knowledge of spelling, grammar and punctuation, proofreaders check and optimize their clients' texts and publications. They also revise texts in terms of stylistic, visual and argumentative design.

With the help of practical exercises, participants in the workshop gain initial insights into areas of activity in freelance editing. They will also learn what they should bear in mind when becoming self-employed and what knowledge and skills they need in order to be successful with their freelance work.

The workshop will be led by Anna Lina Dux, who has been working as a freelance editor since 2014. She has a master's degree in German studies, philosophy and political science and worked for several years as a research assistant and lecturer for special tasks at the University of Kassel. In addition to her work as a freelance lecturer, she continues to offer courses at the department as a lecturer.

The workshop will take place on January 23rd and February 6th from 14:00-18:00 via Zoom. Active participation is required in order to receive a certificate of attendance. It is also possible to earn a credit for additive key competencies (credit type "Key competency events of the University of Kassel") if, in addition to attending both days, you successfully complete a course assignment in the form of two cooperative tasks. IMPORTANT: If you have already taken part in an earlier workshop by Ms. Dux on free editing as part of the practical program, you can participate again, but you will not receive any further credit for additive key competencies.

The course is offered by the Faculty 02 Humanities and Cultural Studies, but is also open to students from other faculties if there is sufficient capacity.
