Greif, Stefan/ Mehmel, Fabian/ Sinning, Jan (2026): Futurische Idyllen - Future designs and futuristic impulses in contemporary literature and media

The idyll is traditionally attributed with a view of a (past) ideal or fictitious golden age. Not only in the history of literature, but also in current analyses of Arcadian texts, the sobering impression often arises that the idyll is limited to escapism and an escape from everyday life. The contributors dispel this prejudice and show why it is worth examining the idylls that do not follow this regressive moment. To this end, they work out the productive impulses of these future designs for current ecological, political and social crises and analyze progressive idylls in different media.
