Workshop Discussions - Reading Mentors' Office Hours

In cooperation with Mentor Nordhessen, the Integrated Language Study Workshop (ISW) invites reading mentors to its workshop discussions. These discussions are intended as an exchange among equals: mentors, researchers from the ISW’s executive board, and students each contribute their respective experiences and perspectives. Everyone is a contributor, not just a participant.

The discussions are based on specific cases from reading and/or spelling support as well as practical materials. Together, we examine how a child’s reading and writing development can be described, what different explanations for potential difficulties might apply, and what needs arise from them. Building on this foundation, we’ll reflect on various support approaches, evaluate materials for their suitability, and develop ideas that can be tested in our own mentoring practice. This isn’t about ready-made solutions. The goal is a shared, case-specific perspective that draws on the diversity of viewpoints.

On November 4, we’ll discuss a child who has been living in Germany for less than two years and is already reading aloud fluently. Together, we’ll consider how to support this child on their journey toward reading comprehension.
