Current doctoral project (Dr. phil. | University of Kassel)

"The Compassion project at school in the context of migration, asylum and flight"

The "Compassion" project has been around since the mid-1990s. The special feature: the pupils complete a social internship and come into contact with people with whom they do not usually come into contact in their everyday lives. Studies show the success of this model: pupils improve their ability to empathize, take on responsibility and develop a "compassion" for their neighbours, whom they perceive as people, as individuals, in their respective situations.

It can now be stated: Pupils also encounter these people within their school, in their class. They are, for example, migrants, asylum seekers, refugees, in any case people with experiences and experiences that need to be paid attention to and listened to in the context of "compassion". If this is reflected successfully, studies show that the project has the chance to increase the willingness to help and social acceptance.

So how can the idea of "compassion" be used here and made fruitful for the promotion of understanding, recognition and even "compassion"? In the context of migration, asylum and flight, can it even succeed in reducing prejudices and eliminating racism and discrimination in the long term because it is done from an early stage?

Completed doctoral project (Dr. theol. | University of Erfurt)

"Miscarried and stillborn children. The dignity of the prenatal human being in the perception of parents and in ethical discourse"

Since 1988, parents affected by a miscarriage or stillbirth have repeatedly petitioned the legislature to strengthen the rights of deceased children and their rights as parents. Against the background of their own direct and profound experience, they have actively participated in the discourse on miscarried and stillborn children.

The work reflects on the relevance of this discourse. It describes a convergence between the parents' pre-reflective experience and systematic argumentation. The study always focuses on the question of the recognition of the prenatal human being, also and especially in the case of prenatal death, as well as the loss of the orphaned parents and the grief of those affected.
