• Since 2007 Chair of Modern German Literature at the University of Kassel
   
• From 1996 - 2002 university lecturer in Modern German Literature and General Literary Studies at the University of Paderborn. Subsequently held several professorships in Paderborn and at the University of Flensburg
   
• 1992 - 1996 Habilitation scholarship from the German Research Foundation. Topic of the habilitation thesis Painting can have a very eloquent silence. The descriptive art and visual aesthetics of poets
   
• Research assistant in Modern German Literature and General Literary Studies at the University of Paderborn. 1990 Doctorate, title of dissertation Honor as civility in the contemporary novels of Theodor Fontane
   
• Studied German language and literature, Protestant theology and philosophy at the University of Siegen (state examination 1988)
