Practical school studies L2, L3, L4 and "Subject-related didactic course" (L2 after completing the practical semester)
Prerequisites for participation:
- You have successfully completed the block internship (L2, L3) or the SPS I (L4).
- You have duly registered for the practical school studies at the Institute of German Studies.
- You have attended the announced preliminary discussions.
Regulations for German didactic practical school studies (SPS II):
The subject-didactic SPS take place after the block internship. In principle, the SPS in German can be completed from the 3rd semester onwards. Up to 60 places are available per semester. If more applications are received, all newly registered students will be allocated by lot. Those who do not get a place in the lottery procedure will be reserved a place in the following semester. The students then register again. Unfortunately, this is necessary for reasons of clarity.
Registration
You can register for the SPS II in subject didactics and the "Subject didactics course with teaching relevance" centrally via the Department of Practical School Studies. The registration period is in December (for the summer semester) and in May (winter semester). Please inform yourself in good time about the exact registration deadline on the website of the Department for Practical School Studies.
Preliminary discussions
When you register, you will be given a date for a first preliminary meeting, which you must attend in order to remain registered.
General information will be given at this first meeting and a further meeting will be arranged, usually at the end of the next semester break. There you will find out at which school and with which mentor you will complete your internship and which university supervisor you have been assigned to. For organizational reasons, we cannot provide any information on these questions before this date.
If you are absent from this second appointment without excuse, you will be barred from internships for one semester.
Procedure of the internship
The SPS in German takes place during the semester and is based on the Hessian school vacations. The SoSe internship takes place between the Easter and summer vacations, the WiSe internship between the fall vacations and the end of the semester.
The internship is usually carried out in pairs or threes. You will accompany German lessons in a class on a regular basis. Initially you will observe, later you will take over the planning and implementation of several lessons. You can also teach in a team.
The time required depends on the type of school and the class level. As a rule, you will spend between three and five teaching hours per week at the respective school.
Regular attendance at the accompanying seminar held by your university supervisor is a mandatory part of the SPS.
Internship schools
We will find the schools and mentors for you. In exceptional cases, you can look for an internship yourself if you have contacted us beforehand. As long as the demand for internships is high, we cannot guarantee that your internship school will be in the city of Kassel. However, we will do our best to find schools in the NVV area.
Internship abroad
One of the three required school internships can be completed abroad. You can find more information here.
