Detlef Eichner

After completing my traineeship at Goethe-Gymnasium Kassel with the Second State Examination for teaching at lower and upper secondary levels (grade: 1.2 - mit Auszeichnung/with honors), I began my career in education. In June 2007, I was appointed as a Studienrat zur Anstellung, followed by an appointment as a Studienrat in November 2008, and finally as a Oberstudienrat in October 2011.

In 2010, I took on the responsibility for all student exchanges to English-speaking countries at Goethe-Gymnasium, including half-year and full-year stays. Within the context of the "Friendship Connection" exchange program I organized, I repeatedly accompanied groups of 80 students to the USA. It was also part of my duties to lead information events about various options for stays abroad after graduation.

As part of my work for the Hessian Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs, I was part of the Abitur examination committee for English, focusing on the creation of the state-wide final exams, over a period of five years.

Since August 2019, I have been serving as a Oberstudienrat im Hochschuldienst at the University of Kassel in the field of foreign language teaching and learning research at the Institute of English and American Studies (IfAA). My professional activities since September 2020 include membership in the committee for the German textbook award (since 2023 Bildungsmedienpreis), participation in the Integrated Study Workshop ISW-Languages, and active involvement in numerous committees and department meetings. My commitment is also demonstrated in my participation in the revision of the Hessian Teacher EducationAct (Hessisches Lehrer:innenbildungsgesetz).

Furthermore, I am highly engaged in the international academic community. This includes, among other activities, supervising Ukrainian, Israeli, and Turkish students and organizing and conducting information events on study abroad opportunities during their studies. Additionally, I am part of the decision-making committee for the awarding of the VDAC scholarship.

Since October 2022, I have been leading the cooperation I initiated with the Jacob-Grimm-School upper secondary school in Kassel to provide students with practical experience in giving multimodal feedback using screen capture in English classes, followed by direct exchange with students and teachers(https://www.uni-kassel.de/uni/aktuelles/sitemap-detail-news/2023/03/09/screen-capture-feedback-kooperation-der-jgs-mit-der-uni-kassel?cHash=9051dd4ba597410e54daddbf50c26abf).

My professional development includes regular participation in training sessions and conferences, such as the online training "Resource Creation with ChatGPT: A Game-Changer for Language Teachers" and my presentation at the international conference "Spotlight on Language Teaching: Digital Feedback in Research and Practice" in June 2023. In March 2024, I conducted a workshop on integrating ChatGPT into language teaching, highlighting my focus on innovative approaches in the education sector.

• using screen capture technology to provide constructive feedback in the EFL classroom
• enhancing EFL students' communication skills through fictional and non-fictional texts
