Mi You appointed as board member of Kunst-Werke Berlin e.V.
Extract of the press relase by KW Institute for Contemporary Art:
As part of her solo exhibition 1992, 2025 (15 February – 4 May 2025) at KW, the artist Sung Tieu (*1987, Hải Dương, Vietnam) has developed a conceptual artwork in which the proceeds from its sale are dedicated to funding a five-year board membership for a new member nominated by the artist. This membership is set to run concurrently with the five-year term of KW’s current director, Emma Enderby. Academic and curator Mi You, proposed by Sung Tieu, was unanimously confirmed by the Executive Board of Kunst-Werke Berlin e. V. as a new member with immediate effect.
„It has been a thoughtful and productive collaboration with Sung in considering how her proposal to define a board seat has taken shape. We are grateful to the artist for this provocation and for working with us to realise it.“, says director Emma Enderby.
The work, titled Declaration of Donation (2025) separates the 5,000 Euro annual fee from the membership itself, an intervention designed to diversify the board and enable board participation regardless of socio-economic background or financial barriers.
