Flying Tigers: Documentary with Mi You is part of this year's Berlinale
Madhusree Dutta's documentary film "Flying Tigers" celebrated its world premiere at this year's Berlinale as part of the Berlinale Forum. The protagonists are director Madhusree Dutta, Prof. Mi You, and author Purav Goswami.
The term Flying Tigers originates from a massive US military logistical operation connecting India and China across the Himalayas during World War II. This story resurfaced after 70 years, when the mother of the director Madhusree was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and kept saying “Close the Windows. Tiger is Coming”.
The film traces various renditions of flying tiger by permeating through memories of territories, wars, and infrastructure projects. Following the il-logic of Alzheimer’s disease, the film insistently shifts between lenses and perspectives.
