Opening speech at the finissage of the German Pavilion at the Biennale Arte 2026 in Venice

Before the Biennale di Venezia comes to an end, the German Pavilion will present a closing program focusing on the artistic work of Henrike Naumann and Sung Tieu in Venice.

A series of panel discussions will explore the political and art historical contexts that inform the practices of Henrike Naumann and Sung Tieu. The evening of November 19 is dedicated to Sung Tieu and the links between global labor, migration, and state power in Europe and Asia that underpin the artist’s contribution to the German Pavilion.
