MUT zur Zukunft | Lunch-Talk | Exhibition UNI:Lokal

As part of the current exhibition "MUT zur Zukunft - Wie neue Materialien und Technologien die Architektur von morgen nachhaltiger gestalten", that takes place from 26.04.2024 till 15.06.2024 at UNI:Lokal, our research associates M.Sc. Mobin Moussavi and M.Sc. Hilke Manot will present their current research projects "S3 - Sustainable Structural Skin" and "FerrumLutum". Their presentations will be held on Tuesday, 07.05.2024 at 1 p.m. in the format of a lunch talk.
The research project “ S3 - Sustainable structural skin” represents the development of a fully digital process chain for high-performance curved steel construction elements by laser cut-ting thin steel sheets and assembling them through elastically deforming them. The production of tailor-made geometric parts with form-fitting connections enables the design of free-form surfaces with ideally utilized elements, as well as the complete integration of secondary functions. The construction concept is demonstrated with the design, engineering, and manufacturing of a thin/lightweight canopy at the Teatherstrasse. The design of the skin emerges from designing a lightweight three-dimensionally bent beam. The ETFE cushions accommodate the double curved panels between the curved beams.
The FerrumLutum research project is concerned with the re-interpretation of historic ceiling slabs through the use of the fully recyclable building materials clay and steel and the application of innovative manufacturing processes. The aim is to formulate a system with minimum environmental footprint especially in comparison to conventional reinforced concrete slabs, that can be used in the multi-storey residential buildings of the future.
