In the course of the ongoing redesign and expansion of the North Campus, a multifunctional workshop building is to be realised in the future as a supplementary building block for the University of Kassel on the basis of the Building Structure Concept 2025. The project is located on the building site of the existing warehouse at Gottschalkstraße 22, which is being dismantled due to the poor building fabric and the specific requirements for the future space programme.
The new workshop building will bring together the existing central workshop, the former production workshop areas of Faculty 15 [Mechanical Engineering] and the workshops of Faculty 06 [Architecture, Urban Planning, Landscape Planning]. In addition to the integration and architectural appearance in the urban context, the main focus is on the conceptual development, taking into account constructional, structural, functional and ecological aspects. The design is to be developed as a hybrid construction of clay and steel. The possible integration of components or materials from the previous existing building is to be taken into account.
