The construction of a second ice rink for the Kassel Huskies (DEL 2) has been an ongoing topic in Kassel for about 15 years. In addition to the expanded training facilities, the ice rink was always intended to be designed as a multi-functional hall and to be used by the MT Melsungen club, which plays in the 1st Handball Bundesliga.

Larger concert offers have so far passed the North Hessian metropolis by due to a lack of an event hall, although it is geographically conveniently located between Hanover and Frankfurt and between Leipzig and Oberhausen.

The task is to develop a column-free hall structure for a multifunctional arena on the southern car park of the existing Kassel Ice Sports Hall. The hall structure must be designed in such a way that it can accommodate both an ice hockey field or a handball field with a seating capacity of 6000. When dimensioning the hall, areas for technology, changing rooms, catering and a backstage area for concerts and large events must be provided. The supporting structure of the hall can be freely chosen, as can the material and construction material. In terms of urban planning, the multifunctional hall should fit into the surroundings of the sports area at the Auestadion and become a highlight and city centre.
