           BW – Building Economy and Project Development

When studying in the master program of architecture at the University of Kassel you are provided with the special choice to deepen your knowledge in a certain field. Our department offers the Master’s specialisation „ACE | Architecture Cities Economies“, which focuses on socio-ecological building economy and democratic project development.

Central themes and studying objectives:

Planning and design strategies with high design standards and a focus on political economy, aiming towards a socio-ecological transformation in building economy and project development. The central researching objectives is to reach a profound understanding of economic interrelationships in the construction industry between land policy, ownership structures, material logistics and the built structures, as much as ressource use and planning instruments.

Project outcomes explore the knowledge and application of social and ecological project development strategies at various scales – with regards to affordable housing, public building, urban planning, from commoning strategies to collaborative design of public space. Our current research projects relate the right to housing with existent vacancy developments.

This Master`s specialisation bridges all three fields of FB06 ASL: architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture.

While all classes of ASL are generally open to you and the Master involves all Institute teaching, at least three special courses are to be taken with us at the Department of ARCHITEKTUR STADT ÖKONOMIE: one Profile project, one Research studio and one Vertiefungsseminar – freely to be chosen throughout your Masterstudies. To allow you full freedom in designing your study schedule, all of these courses are offered by us every term.
