Re:Timber LAB

summer semester 2025
event number | FB06.508
supervision | Prof. Philipp Eversmann [EDEK]
research associates | M. Sc. Hyo Wook Kim [EDEK] | M. Sc. Dongyuan Liu

This studio focuses on two main topics: Construction methods with reusable wood materials and participation in a research project with SDG+LAB: development and fabrication of a 1:1 demonstrator
Our studio will further research new digital design methods from SoSe24 and WiSe 24/25 to effectively utilize residual materials from timber construction. These materials are often in smaller dimensions than required for standard timber components, so innovative strategies are needed to transform them into functional, load-bearing and aesthetically pleasing components. Digital design methods are used to design a variety of elements and develop material-efficient constructions.
In the larger application context, we will participate in a research project with SDG+Lab, which deals with the design of a sustainable pavilion in the Kassel rural area. The aim of the project is to design an interesting, sustainable and innovative pavilion that blends harmoniously into the natural environment while providing functionality and an optimal social atmosphere. To achieve this goal, we will conduct program studies and environmental analysis to find the best possible solution.
Previous experience in Rhino 3d modeling is required. Experience with Grasshopper, scripting and digital fabrication is helpful. The studio will be held in German / English.
