Upcoming Workshop 2027: Playing the Field VII - Play in Progress (Kassel)
Playing the Field VII - Play in Progress: Environments we build
International Workshop | 25.–26. February 2027 | Kassel
The seventh edition of “Playing the Field” brings together researchers working on digital and analogue games and their relationship to the spaces and built environments we inhabit, imagine, and transform.
The workshop focuses on the diverse relationships between games and the built environment: from architecture, cities, and landscapes to infrastructure and mobility, environmental storytelling, spatial politics, and worldbuilding. Perspectives on sustainability, resilience, participation, and future worlds are also welcome.
The workshop will take place at theSDG+ Lab of Kassel University and is hosted by the Department of Economy of Urban and Regional Development at Kassel University in cooperation with the Department of American Studies at TU Dortmund University.
The workshop is conceived as an open space for exchange and discussion. Rather than traditional conference presentations, participants are invited to share ongoing research on games or bring their own prototypes to discuss and explore together.
We welcome contributions from researchers across disciplines and career stages. We particularly encourage PhD candidates and early-career researchers to participate.
