This research-oriented studio offers three thematic tracks that individual students can choose from. Multiple students may select the same topic. Each project will involve reading, proper citation, academic writing, and submitting a booklet. 

Available Topics 

3D Scanning and Categorisation of Timber Materials 
This topic explores the use of 3D scanning technology to document reclaimed timber elements. Students will investigate categorisation methods and develop a digital 3D material library. 

Timber Construction Through Time 
This topic examines the historical development of building materials, with a particular focus on timber construction. Students will classify timber buildings by typology and historical period to identify structures suitable for restoration, renovation, or demolition. 

Computational Methods for Reusing Building Components 
This topic investigates design strategies for reusing building components through processes such as cutting, reassembly, and transformation. The aim is to create new typologies from salvaged materials without simply reusing components in their original 1:1 form.
