WISE @ ECIS 2026

Presentation and discussion of current research at the European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS) 2026 in Milan, Italy.

The WISE team participated in the European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS) 2026, which took place at Bocconi University in Milan under the theme “Re-imagining Digital Technology for Business, Management, and Society.” ECIS is one of the most prestigious academic conferences in the field of business informatics and offers researchers from around the world a platform to exchange ideas on current developments and future challenges of digital technologies for business and society.

During the conference, the WISE team presented four research papers on current issues in artificial intelligence, personalization, trust research, and digital sovereignty.

Martin Hänel, Kevin F., Thiemo Wambsganß, and Matthias Söllner presented the paper “Design and Evaluation of an Adaptive Reading Support System for Comprehension.” The research presents an adaptive support system that assists readers in understanding complex scientific texts.

Sophia Meywirth, together with her co-authors, presented the paper “The Role of Self-Referential Social Cues and Small Talk in Large Language Model-Based Health Coaching: Enhancing Anthropomorphism and User Trust.” The study examines how human-like communication cues in LLM-based health coaching influence the perception of anthropomorphism and user trust.

In addition, Sophia Meywirth, together with Andreas Janson and Matthias Söllner, presented the paper “When Trust Breaks: A Framework for Analyzing and Understanding Trust Violation and Repair in Sociotechnical Systems.” The research develops a framework for analyzing trust violations and trust repair in sociotechnical systems.

Katja Pott, Roman Rietsche, Matthias Söllner, and Thiemo Wambsganß also presented the paper “Personalization of Information Systems: A Taxonomy and Research Agenda for Generative User Interfaces.” The paper develops a taxonomy and a research agenda for the personalization of information systems through generative user interfaces.

In addition, the WISE team participated in the Information Systems Journal Paper Development Workshop on the topic of “Digital Sovereignty.” There, the abstract “What Drives Digital Sovereignty Entrepreneurship? Evidence from Search Engines” by Florian Weber, Sarah Götz, Martin Hänel, Aidai Elbekova, Matthias Söllner, and Tobias Kircher. The research examines factors influencing the emergence of alternative digital infrastructures, using search engines as an example.

In addition to the academic presentations, the conference offered numerous opportunities for professional exchange with researchers from the international business informatics community. The discussions during the Paper Development Workshop were particularly valuable, as they gave participants the opportunity to further develop their research projects with leading scholars in the field.

The WISE team would like to extend its sincere thanks to the ECIS 2026 organizing committee, Bocconi University, the University of Milan, all track chairs, reviewers, and participants for the valuable discussions and constructive feedback. Special thanks also go to Petter Nielsen and Daniel Veit for organizing the workshop, as well as to Laura Brandimarte, Ben Eaton, and Mary Tate for creating an inspiring and development-oriented workshop atmosphere.
