The Department of Marketing supervises Bachelor's and Master's theses related to the various research areas of the department. Please note that certain requirements must be met and application deadlines adhered to in order for a thesis to be accepted. Please read the section "Topic allocation and advice". If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us!

Assignment of topics and advice

A prerequisite for writing a thesis in the Marketing Department is advanced knowledge of strategic and operational marketing. To meet this requirement, students must successfully complete at least two courses (4 SWS each) from the specialized track of study (for bachelor’s theses) or the master’s program (for master’s theses) with a marketing focus, one of which must be a course offered by the Marketing Department. Since academic theses are intended to generate findings that are broadly applicable, the Marketing Department generally does not supervise company-specific case studies or theses.

Topics for theses may be chosen freely. However, your proposals should come from the following areas of marketing:

  • Transformative Consumer Research and Consumer Well-being ( more info)
  • Customer Experience Marketing ( more info)
  • Multisensory / Experiential Marketing (especially haptic marketing) ( more info)
  • Customer Acceptance of New Technologies and Behavioral/Consumption Styles ( more info)

If you would like to write a thesis at our department, please submit a cover letter and the completed application form to Greta Möller . In your cover letter, please explain the relevance of your chosen topic, the objectives of your thesis, and your motivation for exploring this topic. When planning your thesis, please note the following deadlines for submitting your application materials:

  • June 30 for theses in the winter semester
  • December 31 for theses in the summer semester

Once the application deadline has passed, we will contact you as soon as possible. If your application is accepted, you will be expected to submit an abstract. Initial information on writing a thesis in the Marketing Department and the application form can be found in the documents under the “Notes and Forms” section.

Students in the Master of Business Administration ( MBA) continuing education program at the Department of Economics at the University of Kassel / UNIKIMS (University of Kassel International Management School) need only successfully complete the “Marketing and Sales Managementmodule to be eligible for supervision on their master’s thesis. In addition, MBA students may also work on transfer topics that, in addition to the research areas mentioned above, may stem from the fields of distribution/sales and sales force management. The start date for the thesis project can be arranged on an individual basis. Interested MBA students should contact Prof. Dr. Andreas Mann (mann@wirtschaft.uni-kassel.de).
